"It is a bit excessive and being stuck out there was the worst." Jessica said moving away finally from her perfectly white board. She began walking around the tables, touching the mouse of each computer to make sure the students had turned it off. "No problem, if you were at the time that happened I would have begged to sit in your classroom till they came." She said touching the last mouse to see the students had listened to her for once.

Bradley watched Jessica with an expression of amusement. "Thankfully I don't have a class this period or I'd be screwed" he said, laughing. " A lot of schools have key cards for the classrooms these days. It's pretty neat"

"Yes you would have," Jessica said, glad no one left any computers on. "That would make things so much easier. Although I am sure I would misplace my key card a lot. I do my key despite the fact its on my car keys." She joked, laughing.

Bradley chuckled as he looked down at his phone. "Ugh, getting emailed late assignments by students" he grumbled. "Seriously if they cared that much about their grades, they wouldn't wait until one week before terms close"

"I know, a few of my students today asked for another week on the assignment, making excuses," Jessica said crossing her arms and leaning on the other side of her desk. "I can't believe them, though I gave two more days." She said wondering if she was a weak teacher in caving into them.

"That's perfectly reasonable" he said in a reassuring tone. He could sense that she was uncomfortable. "Its like you give them an inch, and they'll take it a mile...not to sound clichè" He was interrupted by his phone ringing. He looked at the phone before picking it up "What's the damage?" he asked the instant he picked it up. He gritted his teeth "You're kidding...yeah I'll come in on Saturday. Thanks." he said before hanging up. He had a slightly exasperated expression. "So where were we? Assignment extensions?"

"No, not cliche at all, it's the truth." Jessica said agreeing with him. She watched him answering the phone, curiosity getting the better of her, but she didn't ask. "Have you ever extended an assignment?" She asked.

"Yeah, all the time. I'm a bit of a pushover I guess" he admitted. "All a student has to do is shed a tear and I extend the damned assignments" he said and shrugged. "Maybe I'm soft, but I hate when students cry"

"I can't stand when they cry, I feel like I have to give them an extension then," Jessica said laughing, glad she wasn't the only teacher that did that. "I don't think your soft. I think we just want to blindly believe their excuse and help them anyway we can." She said knowing deep down in her own heart she loved her students and would help them pass the best way she could.

"I mean, I'm sure you remember being a teenager. It was what, two years ago for you?" Bradley was usually zealous with flattery. "Its hard being a teenager. You have dating, becoming adults and whatever. But at some point you have to make some adult decisions to do your homework. We're just preparing them for life. That's what I tell myself." he shrugged.

Jessica laughed "Thank you, but no. It was more than two years ago." She said, fiddling with a piece of loose hair before placing it behind her ear. She looked down at the floor and side. "It was a difficult time," She said remembering her teenage years. "Who knows what some of these students are going through. But you are right. They have to grow up and make choices sooner or later." she felt a little sadden by this fact.

Bradley bit his tongue when he saw how upset Jessica was. He fiddled around with his watch awkwardly. "I mean, imagine if our teachers let us off easy because we were growing up" he said softly. He remembered how teachers actually did go easy on him for his condition, and how he wasn't really ever treated like a normal person in his teenage years. He fixed his gaze to the floor.

Jessica laughed "I was kind of a teachers pet, so I did get some things put off. Things were a little easier." She said thinking maybe that was why she did it. "But, I think two days off is better than being a strict teacher and saying no." She said with a smile as she relaxed and let her arms fall to her side.

"You're right" he said, bringing his head up and smiling again. "Oh, the maintenance people are here" Bradley said as he looked over towards his classroom at the maintenance staff that was breaking the lock. He excused himself and walked over, exchanging his broken key for a new one. The staff put a new knob and lock on the door.

Jessica walked only as far as the door to her classroom and waited, crossing her arms and waited for the maintenance staff to finish the job.

After the maintenance staff was done, Bradley sauntered back over to Jessica's classroom. "That wasn't too bad" he said, laughing."I figured I would have to go without a doorknob for a while there" he added.

"Nah, I think they have spares in their office." Jessica said chuckling. "Just don't go breaking the second one. I have heard they aren't quick the second time around." She said turning around and heading into her classroom where she moved to save her progress and turn off her computer, she decided it was about time to head home.

"Hey um. Do you wanna go for ice-cream or something? I was gonna get some anyway and all..." Bradley asked. He felt a little bizarre, asking to go out with someone after knowing them for a mere hour, but he felt like this was something he wanted to do. "If you're not busy of course..." he added nervously.

Jessica gently dropped her laptop into her bag, looking up at him. "Do you always eat dessert before dinner?" She teased as she finished gathering her items either into her laptop bag or her purse. "Besides grading papers I have nothing tying me down." She said.

"Truth be told, I've never had a normal meal schedule. If you want to go to dinner first, that'd be alright with me." Bradley said as he counted the calories he'd consumed for the day. He still needed a few thousand to meet his quota.
