Bradley's heart sped up immensely at the sound of Jessica's voice. He couldn't speak or move, but every cell in his body wanted to be out of that room. The last thing he wanted was to let Jessica see him like this. He put his hands over his face in embarrassment. He had an IV in each arm, a pulse monitor on his index finger, and a bunch of other machines. He was pale and covered in bruises from the procedure and the injections he had to receive. He wanted to apologize for looking so bad.

When Jessica didn't hear a response she wondered if he was sleeping, she took a few more steps then stopped and waited. "Bradley?" She called out again. She took a deep breath before walking fully into the room, her face went pale at the site of all the tubes coming out of him. She covered her mouth to keep the gasp from escaping. She closed her eyes and took several deep breaths trying to hyperventilate.

Bradley took his hands off his face and looked at Jessica with a worried expression. Afraid that she would pass out, he hit the button on the side of the bed to get a nurse into the room. A nurse came in seconds later to the sound of the buzzer. She saw the young woman in the room, who seemed to be having a panic attack. The nurse gently took Jessica by the arm and led her to a chair in the room. "I'll go get you some water, sweetie." she said before leaving Bradley and Jessica alone in the room Bradley didn't take his eyes off of her. He felt immensely guilty

Jessica let the woman sit her down, she didn't hear what the nurse said, only that she would be right back. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath counting to three. She opened them slowly, her hand falling from her face. "Bradley," She said softly as she stood up and walked over to his bed. She could see past the tubes and the machines now and saw her teaching friend.

Bradley blinked, gauging whether or not Jessica was okay. He reached over to his bedside table and got the small whiteboard. "I am so sorry. " he wrote. He held the whiteboard out, and looked up at Jessica.

Jessica read the board. She smiled and shook her head. "Don't be sorry." She said wondering what had happened. "Something go wrong during the appointment?" She asked as the nurse returned. She smiled at Jessica and handed her the water, warning her that if she felt faint again to sit down and call a nurse. Jessica nodded and took a sip of the water before turning back to Bradley.

He erased the board and wrote again. "Lung infection, and lung collapse." The nurse approached him. "Mr Webster, we're going to try to take the tube out of your throat so you can breathe on your own." Bradley nodded weakly. She turned to Jessica. "You might want to leave the room for this."

Jessi a nodded her head first to Bradley then to the nurse. She stepped out of the room and leaned against the wall in the hallway.

Bradley grabbed the edges of his hospital bed, bracing for the inevitable discomfort and pain. The nurse turned the machine off, and pulled the tube out, agonizingly slow. Bradley was suddenly overwhelmed with agonizing pain. He retched and gripped the bedframe harder. Finally, the tube was out. He coughed and gasped, his eyes watering. "Where's the.... I need the...." He strained between gasps. The nurse knew exactly what he meant, and handed him his morphine button. He grabbed it, and aggressively clicked it. Breathing on his own made it feel like a hot poker was rammed into his chest. Eventually, the morphine took hold, and he breathed in steadily. The nurse left the room, and gestured to Jessica that it was safe to enter.

Jessica heard what sounded like a struggle inside the room and she wanted to jump in, but decided not too. She held her breath and waited for it to be all over, she wondered if this happened each time he had a collapsed lung and infection. When the nurse walked out of the room she let out the breath she had been holding. She slowly walked into the room, wondering what she would find.

Bradley had an oxygen line under his nose to support his breathing, but it allowed him to talk instead of write. The only downside to his predicament was that he had just gotten quite a bit of morphine, which made him quite loopy. "He-....It.... It's youuu" he said, his voice barely audible and significantly slurred. He smiled. "I like you, okay? You're here. Yeahhhh" He pulled his blanket over his shoulders. "I'm here too"

Jessica looked at him with a puzzled look, "Are you.. On drugs?" She asked with a slight smile though she felt confused. She grabbed the only chair in the room and drug it across the floor so she could sit right next to him.

Bradley looked around with a look of bewilderment. He held up the morphine clicker. "This thing...." he nodded "Lemme tell you. This." He didn't finish his sentence, but he just stared at Jessica with that same bewildered expression. "You're here."

Jessica couldn't help but laugh. "Yes, I am here." She said getting the idea that the thing he was holding was some kind of pain killer button. "Is there anything else I can get you?" She asked.

Bradley stared at Jessica in silence for a few seconds. His brain worked in overdrive to remember something he had made a mental note of before going under anesthesia "My mail. And the cat." he said, as he reached over and put his hand on top of Jessica's head. "The cat. The cat. The cat. The cat needs foooood." he giggled and rolled his eyes "This...." he trailed off. "Please."

Jessica sat up a little. "Oh, you want me to take care of the cat?" She asked, brightening up at the fact he had a cat. She loved cats. "How will I get into your place?" She asked realizing also that she didn't know where her place was.

"My keys are in uh" he looked around the room "That suitcase over there" he said, pointing to the suitcase he set up just in case he needed to stay in the hospital for any length of time. "There's also an address on the luggage tag thingie. But you gotta get a gps or you'll drive underwater" he nodded, as if what he was saying made total sense. "What time is it?" he said while staring directly at the clock on the wall in front of him. He stared, mesmerized by the moving second hand. "How do they do that?" He then turned his attention to the IV drip attached to him "Don't let the....the bastards bring you down" he mumbled, before yawning.

Jessica looked around the room till she spotted the suitcase. "Okay," She said getting up to grab it and bring it back to the chair. She hesitated opening it, but finally did so. She found the keys easily and grabbed them. Jessica grabbed the luggage tag and took it, deciding to bring it back when she was done. "Underwater?" She asked wondering what he was talking. She listened to him rambling on guessing it was the drugs affecting him. "Don't let them bring you down," She repeated with a smile on her face as she replaced the suitcase and grabbed her purse. She placed a hand on his arm and said "I'll be back," before heading into the hallway.
