Jessica sat at her desk in front of her classroom staring at her computer. She was amazed at how badly some students were at typing seeing as they were the generation surrounded by technology. She was bound and determined to make them better at it, even if it meant learning their short texting lingo.
"TTYL?" Jessica asked herself out loud as she stared at the screen shaking her head.

Bradley stood outside his locked classroom. He rammed his key into the lock and turned it, and instead of hearing the distinct *click* that signified an opening door, he heard a metallic snap. His key had broken inside the lock. "You have GOT to be kidding me" he said out loud, staring at the snapped key in his hand. He looked across the hall at the computer classroom and saw that there was someone inside. He couldn't help but laugh at his predicament.

Jessica snapped out of her concentration that was already failing when she heard someone yelling out in the hallway. She stood up and walked to her door. "Hello? Having issues?" She asked the only person standing the hallway.

Bradley spun around at the sound of the other person's voice. He flushed and tried not to smile too creepily. "My key broke in the lock" he said and laughed a little. He pulled his elbow up to his mouth and turned around to cough. He turned to face the young woman again. "Today hasn't been my day" he said with a smile

Jessica gave him a small smile. "That actually happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Do you want me to call Maintenance?" She asked pointing her thumb towards her office where there was a phone. "And everyone has those days, just hope it doesn't turn into one of those weeks," She joked.

"That would be great, thanks" he smiled. "Oh, by the way, I'm Bradley Webster. I've seen you at staff meetings, but I haven't had a chance to formally introduce myself"

Jessica's smile grew a little as she turned on her heel and entered her classroom again. "Same here, to be honest I hate those meetings," She said rolling her eyes. "Jessica Hines." She added before handing him the school phone off her desk.

"Yeah they aren't the most productive use of our time. Nice to meet you, Jessica" Bradley took the phone and dialed the maintenance extension. "Hi, This is Bradley Webster. Yeah, second floor. My key just broke in the lock and I need my classroom opened, please. Yeah. Yep...okay" he put the phone back on the receiver. "Thanks"

"Nice to meet you," Jessica returned the compliment. She leaned against her desk as he made the call, waiting for him to finish. "No problem," She said, moving the phone slightly out of habit. "You can stay here until they get here." She added.

"Thanks again" Bradley said and sighed. He ran his fingers through his hair and looked around. "All the papers I need to grade are in my room, hilariously enough" he looked up at Jessica, which was enough to make him stop talking for a second; that and the fact that he was feeling a tightness in his chest. "Excuse me for a second" he whispered as he reached into his briefcase for an inhaler. He looked at the label and shook it before taking a deep puff of it. He put the inhaler back and looked at Jessica again. I have spent my whole time here across the hall from her and I didn't notice for one second? He thought and nervously shifted his weight from one foot to the other

"No problem," Jessica said, walking over to her whiteboard and began erasing what she had written for that days plan. "That sucks, I am having trouble grading my students homework." She said turning around as he excused himself. She didn't realize he had asthma, she didn't actually really know much about the teacher from across the hall. "You okay?" She asked, she didn't know much about medical problems.

"Yep. Totally fine" he said and smiled again. "Yeah, grading isn't the most fun, but its something we have to do." he shrugged, trying to draw attention away from his health. As far as introducing himself to pretty women, he didn't see his Cystic Fibrosis as a necessarily endearing part of his life. He felt his lungs clear up a little and he took a deep breath.

"Yeah, I wish I could have a student assistant and make them grade it all," Jessica said putting down the eraser. She decided not to push the breathing issues if he didn't feel the need to. "So, sadly I have no idea what you teach." She added, basically asking him without actually asking.

"Latin, and Mythology...What about you?" he asked, though it was blatantly obvious. He just wanted to keep the conversation going.

Jessica took a look around her room, each table had a computer on it. "Mostly computers. How to work them, though right now it is typing. Most of student think it's okay to just abbreviate words." She said shaking her head and rolling her eyes.

Bradley let out a raspy laugh. "I don't know why they're always doing that. Why do they need to rush! They're teenagers." he shook his head "They've got plenty of time to spell things out correctly" he added as he leaned on the desk with his hand. He stifled a yawn and glanced up. "I guess its just a sign of the times" he said and shrugged

"I don't know if it's them rushing or just being lazy," Jessica said laughing, "Most of them are lazy I think, but you are right. They have their entire life ahead of them." She added suddenly feeling sad. Jessica quickly changed her attitude, "I guess. I wonder what the next generation is going to be like. Very fast I think." She joked shaking her head and laughing again.

Bradley smiled, though it was clear in his eyes that he was uncharacteristically sad. "Yeah" he said, his voice trailing off. He looked over at his own classroom. "Do they usually take this long?" He asked, looking down at his watch. He shook his head to stop focusing on what bothered him.

Jessica chuckled "Sadly, yes. They took about an hour when that happened to me," she said shaking her head. "Their excuse was they needed all the paperwork approved first then they had to get all their equipment." She continued throwing her hands up in the air and rolling her eyes. "I felt like a loser, sitting and waiting in the hallways." She laughed.

"An hour to complete the paperwork?" He asked incredulously. "That's a bit excessive... But I guess they know what they're doing" he shrugged. "I couldn't imagine being stuck in the hallway like that though. I'm glad you let me in here" he said "thanks again"
