Reed nodded, handing her phone back to her. "Yes, not to be too dramatic, but I almost died a couple years ago in a rodeo accident." he shifted from one foot to another, speaking of the accident always made him just a little antsy.

Jake laughed softly and without a word swept Sophie up into his arms, cradling her against his muscular chest in the way a groom would carry his bride down the aisle. He gave her charming smile then set her on the seat of the truck "I'll help you out when we get there." he closed the door, careful not to hit her with it and walked to the other side, hopping in the front seat and started his truck, letting it roar to life. "So where exactly do I go to get to this place?"

Sophie laughed wrapping her arms around his neck looking at him with his cute smile, why did he have such a cute smile. "Why thank you, you're so sweet." she teased putting on her seatbelt watching him get in his truck with ease. "You leave here and make a right and it's about a few blocks down it will be on the left call South Shore Diner." she told him.

"Oh my god," Carly said slowly, her mouth hanging open slightly. "How?" She didn't really know what else to say. No wonder Jake was protective of him. She imagined her own younger brother almost dying and was unsure of how exactly she would handle it herself. She glanced back down at the stupid blog on her phone and turned it off, disgusted, before shoving it back in her pocket.

Jake nodded and grinned at her, pulling out of the parking lot and driving the way that she had told him, playfully gunning the engine since no other cars were on the road. Sure, he was showing off, it was hard for him not to around a pretty girl.
Reed ran a hand through his hair, "I was practicing for a rodeo when I lost control of my horse. Something spooked him and threw him into a rage. I fell off and he decided to take his rage out on me." he winced slightly, remembering the pounding of hooves against his body, leaving permanent hoof prints against his skin, the frantic and angry whinnying from the bronco echoing in his ears. "My chest and ribs were cracked and one was inches from piercing my lung and my heart was almost crushed. Luckily Jake got there in time and got help. He distracted the bronco until my Pa came...with a gun. The only way to stop the horse was to kill it." he said softly. "We later found out it had contracted rabies from a wild coyote that had attacked a few days ago, it was the build up of the stress and the disease that made it go rogue."

Sophie looking out the window smiling knowing he was showing off a bit, she didn't mind she liked it. "Do this often?" she asked him smirking over to him liking the wind blowing through her hair, her hand hanging out of the window.

"Do what often?" he smirked, "Take pretty girls for rides in my rig? Or drive around a lot?" he looked out the window and relaxed, gazing out at the scenery, but making sure to pay attention to the road.

"That and showing off." she said poking her tongue out at him looking to the road. "Oh its that place right up there, see it?" she said pointing past the stop light it was a few buildings away.

Carly stared at the ground as he spoke, listening to him carefully. He finished, and she brought her gaze back up to him. She wasn't sure how to respond. "Do you tell everyone this when you first meet them? Or am I just special?" she asked with a small laugh. It was all she could manage, but she instantly felt stupid for not being more sympathetic.

Jake laughed, "I just do what I want girlie." he playfully winked then looked at the building, soon pulling into the parking lot. He shut off his truck, shoving his keys into his pocket then hopped out and went to the passenger side, opening the door for Sophie, holding out his hands.
Reed simply shrugged, "You asked, I answered. When people hear I've been in an accident they usually mumble an apology and try to change the subject as quickly as possible." he half smiled. "I think talking about it helps me deal with it though."

((I just feel like adding in that my redneck ass cousin used to have a HUGE ass lifted truck and he always made me get in it by myself so he could laugh at me and it would take me like 10 minutes. And I would have to like jump from it to get out, and the first couple times I was afraid I was going to break my legs. xD))

Carly shrugged. "Well I guess I'm just not most people," she told him, rolling her eyes, "I don't see why someone would offer an apology for something that wasn't their fault." She nodded slowly when he spoke again. "Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I'm not really one to talk about my own problems though."

((I don't think I saw it))
Reed nodded, "And I'm not one to push someone else to tell me something when they don't want to talk about it, but I do like people who aren't like all the others I've met." he offered a kind smile, "Do you want to go sit down somewhere? Standing some times gets a little boring."

Sophie laughed and looked down at him as she shifted over looking down at him, he was such a gentleman but also a bit cocky, she liked it. "I don't know I think I kinda like this view right now. I could get used to this you know." she teased taking his hands in hers to get out of the truck, hopefully not making a fool out of herself.

Jake laughed and gave her a flirty grin as he helped her down. "Then get use to it, I'll be here for the whole school year." he closed the door behind her and locked it, holding his arm out to her in a gentlemanly fashion, "Lunch will be my treat today, so get whatever you want today."

Carly nodded, suddenly realizing just how tired her legs were from standing for so long. She felt a little weak, and she laced her fingers together to keep her hands from shaking. "Sure," she offered, glancing around for somewhere to sit, "Lead the way."

Sophie took his arm walking with him inside, "I'll hold you to that." she said feeling his arm a bit as she got to hold it. "Aw Jake you really don't have too, I might make you poor with the amount of food I eat." she said laughing going inside asking a table for two.

Jake laughed, shaking his head. "Don't worry about that little lady, I can afford it. Plus, I like a girl who can eat." he playfully pulled her closer to his side.
Reed nodded, sticking his hands in his pockets as he looked around, soon spotting a stone bench under a tree that offered plenty of shade, and privacy. He smiled at Carly then walked over to it, but instead of sitting on the bench, he sat on the ground and leaned against it, tilting his hat back on his head.
