'Alright, I've been flying under the radar for a while now. I guess its time to actually meet someone in this school.' Emanuel thought, as he walked through the library doors. He found an empty desk to put his things on, and started to wander. He liked libraries, because they had a system of order in which everyone followed. He wandered into the nonfiction section, looking for nothing in particular. He had been in this school for about three days and didn't interact with anyone yet. Being from Israel meant that he had an accent, which was usually the first thing to come up in conversation, which made him hesitant to speak to people. He figured that he had to get over it, though and he went out to find someone with similar interests. He checked himself in the reflection of his phone for a second, to make sure that he looked alright. He brushed some of his dark curly hair out of the way with his hand, and then put on some hand sanitizer that he had in his pocket.
One person among the abundance of students caught Emanuel's eye. There was a young looking boy holding a book and reading the cover. He had interesting looking straight hair, and he had this irresistible boyish charm that caused him to stare a little, but Emanuel got very nervous and didn't want to seem creepy, so he looked away.
'The people in this school are so attractive...' he thought as he picked up a random book to seem busy

If Jacen Sullivan spent any more time in the library than he already did, he could probably get a job as the librarian. And, if we're being honest here, that might not be such a problem. He knew the library much better than the batty old woman who barely knew morning dew from the Dewey Decimal System, and he loved the books. Still, practically living in the library did have it's drawbacks. (surprising, I know) Jacen wasn't the most social creature in the school, and his aversion to partying or anything else that was 'cool', and because of such, his friend group was extremely limited. In fact, most people only talked to him to try and copy off his homework, which only furthered Jacen's antisocial tendencies.
As usual, today was no exception, and the small boy was posted in the non-fiction section, today drawing from the shelf, a book with a deep mahogany cover that had faded lettering on the spine. He knew he'd never get through it; the font was just small enough to distract him if he tried. His mind would wander away from the bloody wars and onto more frivolous topics, like the tiny fray on the end of his cardigan sleeve that he'd only just noticed, or the strange way the page had aged, and how the darker spots looked like an alien's face-well, the media's representation of an alien, anyway. But that is an entirely different matter.
The sophomore blew out a short breath, aimed at the book, before glancing around him. He'd become so absorbed by his fraying sleeve that he'd forgotten that others might actually come into the library, and not just to use the computers in the corner to play stupid games, but to actually...find books in the nonfiction area. You can imagine his surprise when his eyes landed on another dark-haired male, the other taller and with much curlier hair. He didn't think he'd ever met the other before-no, he couldn't have, Jacen was sure he'd remember the face. Was it weird to introduce yourself to taller, more attractive men? In the library? Probably. Jacen wasn't sure if there was etiquette for this particular situation, so after a few moments of furtively glancing up at the other while mindlessly pretending to read his own book, he mustered up the courage and walked over.
"Hi, um. I'm Jacen. I haven't-uh-I haven't seen you here before?" He posed it as a question after he stumbled over his words, cool and casual as ever.

Emanuel looked up suddenly. Was this actually happening? Did that boy just notice him? His hands shook a little out of nervousness. "I...You might have noticed me..." he said nervously. "I was in here two days ago when I was... on a tour of the school." He knew there was something else he needed to say, but his mind seemed totally jumbled. Right! An introduction! "My name is Emanuel" he added. He looked over nervously. He barely knew his teachers' names and now he was off introducing himself to a guy who was exceedingly good looking on all counts. He racked his brain trying to think of something else to say, but he couldn't think of anything. He turned his gaze back to the shelves, and felt his cheeks turn red from embarrassment. He felt that his attempts to seem calm and not at all creepy were in vain. Was this new kid anxiety or something else? He glanced over at Jacen again to not seem rude or disinterested.

"Oh! Now that you mention it!" Jacen began, excitedly, and perhaps with unnecessary energy. "You're the new guy!" A new student meant they hadn't been scooped up by the vicious popular kids yet, and Jacen might actually have a chance at making a new friend. He watched the guy as he stuttered an introduction. Cute. Jacen thought, trying not to smile in a way that showed he'd noticed the other's nerves taking over. He wasn't really one to ever think that, (unless he was watching a cat video on YouTube), especially since most of the cute ones were the straight ones.
"It's nice to meet you, Emanuel. I'm sure you'll love it here," Jacen stated politely, releasing the edge of his sleeve that he'd been tugging at and pushing both arms of the cardigan up over his elbow to keep himself from stretching it out any more. "Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?" Jacen inquired curiously, tilting his head to the side gingerly as he laced his fingers together to try and seem less restless. He was very proud of himself so far; he hadn't faked an excuse to run away and hide in embarrassment for even approaching the attractive male.

"I'm from Tel Aviv, Israel." Emanuel responded, slightly disappointed that attention was drawn to his accent. He saw a book on the shelf that was out of place out of the corner of his eye, and his did his best to try and ignore it. His therapist told him that he should try holding back from organizing and "fixing" things for at least 30 seconds. Emanuel quickly attempted to distract himself through conversation. "I've been here for 2 years...but I was in public school until now." He added. His stance became increasingly rigid as time passed. He kept glancing over at the shelf. 13...14...15... He clenched his jaw and reached over to the book, putting it in the right spot. "Shit, I should've waited" He sighed in defeat, before bringing his attention back to Jacen.
"I have never met someone so good looking" he thought, impressed.

"Oh wow-you've come such a long way! That's incredible," Jacen replied, his eyes widening to meet the likeness of a deer in the headlights. Having been born, raised, and never left the boarders of his own state, Jace couldn't imagine anything beyond California, honestly, so Israel left quite the impression on the boy. "Public school was never my thing..." Jacen began, biting at the inside of his cheek. "Though I suppose they have more freedom-but at least the food is better here!" He finished with a small, nervous laugh. He looked over the other, curiously, as the curly-haired boy sighed.
"Are you alright?" It was probably just new kid jitters, Jacen assumed. He still got them from time to time, despite having been enrolled at Tidewater for almost a full year.

Emanuel knew that Jacen was talking, but he couldn't make out the words through the anxiety and the sound of the blood pounding through his head. He recognized his own distraction and waited for a cue to jump back into the conversation, hoping that he didn't seem rude by ignoring Jacen.
"I'm fine..." Emanuel said "I was just a bit..." he searched for the word "Distracted...is all" he muttered, his voice trailing off He lined the spine of the book with the others on the shelf so that they were perfectly aligned. It wasn't that obvious, was it? His eyes darted up to Jacen again. "Oy vey, I probably seem so weird right now" He thought, forcing his arm down from the bookshelf. He put his hands in his pockets.

His eyes scanned Emanuel, watching him fiddle with the books on the shelves wordlessly. He hoped he wasn't bothering the other; and by the looks of it, he was. Sheesh, way to go Jacen. You're probably boring the guy to death. The small sophomore swallowed hard, clearing his throat quietly.
"If you want to be...um," The sophomore stammered, fumbling for the right words. "Left alone...I get it," Jacen nodded slowly, his manners overruling his curiosity as he kept up trying to be understanding for whatever reason. What he really wanted was to straight ask the boy if he was bothering him, but even in his craziest dreams Jacen wasn't one to be so forward. He'd just quietly excuse himself and take refuge in another part of the library if it had to be done.

Emanuel clenched his jaw in frustration "Now you seem disinterested, way to go" "No, Thats not it at all!" he said in a voice that was a bit too loud for a library. He quickly closed his mouth and flushed, embarrassed by the outburst. "I guess I am just a little nervous..." he whispered sheepishly and pulled his trembling hands out of his pockets. He felt a knot in his stomach. "Why am I so awkward?" he asked himself. He wished that he could just dissolve into the carpet and come back up when the library was empty. "I am...not very good at conversation." he admitted

Jacen sighed, feeling the knot in his stomach unclench the slightest bit, physically relieved at the other's response. "O-oh, okay." He blinked a few times, trying to contain how grateful he was to hear that Emanuel was nervous. He hadn't the faintest idea why the young man would be nervous-especially looking like that, god-but nerves he could handle.
"Gosh-no, it's fine! Sorry, it's my fault I'm sure-I talk way too much and then I just kind of keep going and no one stops me and-yeah," He rushed out in one breathy carry-on sentence of sorts, only finishing with an apologetic half shrug when he realized he'd been going exactly that.

"No, you're fine...really!" Emanuel said, cursing his own awkward mannerisms. He wanted to grab the shorter boy and carry him to his dorm, so that they could embrace for hours at a time in silence without any awkward conversation. Wait, this was so weird for someone he just met. He blinked hard a few times to get the image out of his head. "So...do you like...movies?" he asked, his voice cracking a bit. "What the HELL do you think you're doing, Emanuel?" He quickly shifted his gaze to the ground.

"Yeah!" Jacen said, brightening considerably. "I love movies!...do you?" He asked, blushing a bit. Of course he fricking likes movies, Jace. Why else would he ask you that jeez! And what huMAN dOESn't like moVIES? He shook away his internal monologue, looking up from his shoes and straightening his smile, only to see that the other had directed his gaze downward. It was like a scene from those really bad Hallmark movies Jacen had spend an entire summer watching; really awful dialogue and lots of missed eye contact. The plus, of course, being that in those movies the main characters always got at least a kiss-not that he was thinking about kissing this guy. Ooohh sweet baby Jesus.

"I was thinking maybe... I mean...I don't have any other classes today and if you don't either maybe you could stop by my dorm for a movie or something?" "You've got to be kidding me. Its been a few minutes and you're already inviting people over." he bit his lip and breathed in deeply. "Maybe you could bring a few friends over if you want to..." Emanuel added, his voice crackling with the embarrassment he felt. He remembered that in America, hospitality can sometimes come across as overbearing and creepy. (This was especially the case in his experiences with public school) so he began to panic a little "I mean, if you're busy that's fine and I can just...I can go away if you would like." he muttered, wondering how he got to be so unbearably awkward.

"No!" Jacen started, his turn to be a little more loud than normally allowed in a library. He flushed and looked away from the taller boy. "No-I mean, it's fine. You're fine." He laughed awkwardly, running a hand along the back of his neck quickly. "You don't have to go away. I-I love to, um, watch a movie with you." His lower lip disappeared between his teeth as he chewed at it anxiously. Was that desperate of him? Probably. But when would he get this chance again? Emanuel was really cute and Jacen was beginning to think they played for the same team. "But...between you and me...I don't have any friends, so...I mean, um-" He gave a sort of weary, but pained look, mixed, of course, with the streaks of pink that were becoming a permanent fixture on his cheeks. Jeez I'm a loser.

Emanuel perked up and smiled a little when Jacen agreed to come over and see a movie. "Uh okay! What time would be okay for you?" he asked. "And I don't really have any friends either, so that's totally fine" he added and laughed a little. Was this actually happening? Emanuel had the urge to pinch himself due to the fact that this was running near perfectly, despite the overwhelming nervousness. He stood rigidly, looking around the room and wondering what he should be doing with his hands. In his pocket? Should his arms be crossed? Behind his back? He had no idea

"Umm...Now?" Jacen almost giggled, despite his entire stomach feeling like he'd swallowed an entire swarm of butterflies. "Or any time, really. I'm not usually busy...I just kinda pretend to be." The sophomore shrugged for the hundredth time as the other mentioned his own lack of friends. "Oh, well, I'm sure that will change soon, I mean look at you." God he was so lame. Why was Emanuel even still talking to him? Maybe he could try a different tactic. He could just nod and say the bare minimum of words so he didn't make a further ass of himself. Yeah, that might work. Well, maybe on a different planet.

"Is a half hour from now alright? I have to clean up a bit and do a few things first...my room is 117 so in a half hour you can just knock on the door...I guess. I don't think my roomate is around so we don't have to worry about bothering him." He flashed a quick smile and shuffled his feet nervously "So I'll see you then?" He asked with a shaky voice, and looked up. "Oh I have so much to do to prepare for this" he worried and clenched his teeth together.

"Yeah! That's perfect!" Jacen nodded-gosh, he was doing a lot of that today. "Half an hour, 117." He repeated, even if he couldn't forget it had he tried. "Good, I wouldn't want to bother anyone," The boy added, though the prospect of being alone, well, more alone than they were right now anyway, sent chills running through his body. "Yeah, see you!"
The next half an hour was the longest of Jacen's life-aside from opening night of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two, which was an most intense night for most Potterheads, not just him. But at least then he hadn't been so nervous. The sophomore had checked his hair about seven times, made sure his cardigan was free of loose threads (more like, pulled at all the ones he could find), and still had a good twenty minutes of pacing around his own dorm room. He didn't want to show up too early and risk looking like an overeager five year old. He waited a couple more minutes before he walked down the hall to room 117 and knocked.

Emanuel smiled as he walked out of the library. In his excitement, he jumped up and slapped the door frame with his hand. Once he reached his dorm, he meticulously cleaned every inch of it. Every speck of dust was removed and everything was organized perfectly on the desk and shelves. Once the room looked like something in an IKEA showroom, he went over to the bathroom to adjust his hair in the mirror. He gave up on his messy, curly hair and brushed his teeth before washing his hands. "This has to be perfect" he said out loud to himself as he laid the remote on the side of the futon, and adjusted the lighting in the room. "This HAS to be perfect" he repeated as he adjusted the shades and the positioning of the television. "This...has to be PERFECT" he muttered yet again as he reached into the desk drawer for a small bottle. He stared at the worn out label on the orange bottle, which read 'Adderall, 20mg' Emanuel fished around the bottle to get his fingers around one of the small, orange pills. He stared at it tentatively, and took it with some water from the bottle on his desk. Now all he had to do was wait. He put the bottle back in the drawer and leaned back in his desk chair, closing his eyes. He heard a knock, which made him jump. As he walked over to the door, he adjusted his shirt and made sure that he looked okay in the mirror once more. He reached over to the lock and turned it, and as he opened the door he checked to make sure it was actually Jacen. "Hey, come in" he said as calmly as he could muster.

It was only a few seconds at most, probably, that he was standing outside Emanuel's room, but he'd checked the room number a half dozen times to confirm that he was in the right place (gOD how embarrassing would that be if he ended up at the wrong room!) before the knob turned. Jacen practically beamed in his relief when Emanuel opened the door and let him in. As he passed through the doorway, the nervous gibberish bubbled up and started flowing through his lips before he could stop himself.
"Hi! I hope I'm not too early. I know we only live down the hall from each other, so I walked really slowly, but I still feel like-wow," Jacen stopped, catching his breath and turning on his heel back to the taller of the two, blushing. "I mean, hi." A large inhale. "Long time no see." The sophomore joked, pulling his lips into a shy smirk. That was wayyy too flirtatious, Jace. Tone it down a notch, sheesh. He scolded himself silently for the arched brow and the way he'd leaned his shoulders in ever so slightly towards the other.
