Lucas stared at the water. It was completely still, just how he liked it. He smirked faintly, adjusting his swim trunks absently. He had done backflips into water before, although, most of the time he usually just ended up on his back with the wind knocked out of him. Though, he had practiced a trillion times and now he was confident... except for the fact that he was scared of hitting his head on the diving bored. He chewed on his lip, however, turning away from the water tentatively. "You can do this, Martin," he grumbled to himself, his muscles tensing. He forced himself to relax, inhaling a deep breath before finally leaping off, curling up and rolling back. Much to his surprised, he flipped back in the air and landed, and although it was slightly painful, he did it. He broke the surface a grinned, his hands smoothing his wet hair back.

Why was it that it always seemed to be a gorgeous sunny day outside, perfect for laying out and tanning... Only to turn into a cloudy day when Kinley finally arrived at the campus pool or beach, the sun always covered by one of the many clouds in the sky? She glowered angrily up at the hidden sun, still squinting slightly in its weakened light. She blew a stray brown lock of hair out of her face and smeared more tanning oil on her legs, deciding that surely it would help to have a lot more of it on if the sun wasn't as bright as she had initially hoped. She turned her attention to the pool as she continued to rub the sickeningly sweet smelling oil on her body, her eyes landing on a guy she vaguely recognized from one of her classes. Economics maybe? She wasn't sure. Something Martin, but who cares. Her mouth curved up on one side as he prepared himself to jump from the diving board before leaping off and performing a mediocre backflip. She shook her head, her hair falling from the messy bun on her head, as he emerged. "You're not doing it right," she called with a laugh, sneering slightly at him, "I mean, your technique is alright, but it could use a little work."

Lucas huffed as he got out of the water. He rubbed his shoulder gently as swam to the side of the pool when he heard a girl call to him in a bitchy way. He looked over to see some girl he kind of recognized from one of his classes. He almost rolled his eyes, "Thanks for the help, but I wasn't really asking," he replied. He hoisted himself out of the pool, not wanting to listen to some girl judge him. That was why he was practicing. He wondered if she knew or cared. Probably not. He rubbed his neck and yawned as he walked over to his stuff, which was sadly near hers. What was her name, anyways? Was it Kristen...? Hm, it didn't sound right. He grabbed his towel and dried his neck and hair with it, already feeling his body getting dry under the hot sun.

Kinley laughed at the irritation clear in his voice. "Don't be so bitter," she said with a smirk, "I'm just trying to help you out." She attempted to gather her fallen hair back up into the bun on her head. She grinned wickedly and said, "Because you kind of need it." She studied him as he dried himself off, pleased with how it seemed that she had the ability to already get under his skin. "Look, I was a cheerleader and gymnast for years," she told him, her devious smile growing, "I kind of know what I'm talking about."

Lucas stretched his arms. "I'm not being bitter. I can do backflips easy. I just can't do them into water," he told her, shaking his head. He could even run up the wall and do backflips. It was just that doing it into water was harder. He was scared to hit his head, maybe. Which was stupid, because he could risk it any time else. "And how are you supposed to help me?" he asked, raising a brow. He tossed his towel down and turned towards her, taking a deep breath, "I know you're a cheerleader. You've cheered for my team before," he told her, if she wasn't aware. She probably hadn't noticed though. He rubbed his shoulder and waited for her to speak, sitting on the edge of the recliner.

Kinley shrugged but figured it better not to argue with him. If he didn't want her advice or help with gymnastics, that was his choice. "Don't worry about it then," she told him lazily, "I can tell you don't want my help anyways. So I guess it doesn't matter." She nodded as he spoke again. Was he on the football team? She hadn't noticed before. Although, she didn't usually pay much attention to the game anyways. Sports weren't really her thing. "Not anymore," she laughed, narrowing her eyes slightly, "I quit the cheerleading team. And, no offense, but there are kind of a lot of guys on the team, and I only pay attention to the truly memorable ones." She sneered at him, hoping she was really getting under his skin now.

Lucas ran a hand through his hair, slightly annoyed by her. Sure she wasn't ugly, but she was coming off as super bitchy at the moment, which he didn't care for. "I don't need it. I'll figure it out on my own," he said with a shrug. It wasn't because she was a girl or something stupid like that, but she was just being super rude. It wasn't cute. Besides, he was covered in that grease-crap girls used to get easy tans. "That's good to know," he said, although that didn't bother him. She looked pretty clueless in his opinion. Besides, she looked like the type to only remember the ones who she slept with. Which was fine with him, since he had Haley anyways.

Kinley rolled her eyes, attempting to rub her tanning oil into her legs a bit more. Satisfied with the shine it created on her skin, she smiled inwardly before speaking. "Suit yourself," she said with a shrug, "You know you're not being very nice to me, considering I was just being friendly and offering to help." She bit her lip, willing herself not to laugh. She knew friendly probably wasn't the word he would use to describe her. "I do remember you from somewhere though," she admitted, "And we've already established it's definitely not for your remarkable athletic abilities."

Lucas raised his brows when she spoke, "That's great and all, but word of advice, if you're going to 'friendly' I would practice on the actually being nice part," he said, plastering on a smile. He could already tell he didn't care for her much. Pretty? Yes. But was she nice? Not even close. She was clearly rude. He raised a brow when she spoke, "And where it that?" he asked, curious. He may not care for her, but he was curious as to how she knew him. Sports was what he was known for, so he couldn't think of much else unless someone told her about him or if they shared a class.

Kinley laughed wickedly, shaking her head at him. "Thanks, I'll work on that," she told him with mock gratitude, "And maybe you should get the stick out of your ass and lighten up." She shook her head again. This guy seriously had no sense of humor. Then again, that's what made it so fun. "I don't know," she said, shrugging her bare shoulders, "You tell me."

Lucas nodded, raising his eyebrows and grabbing his shirt. He tugged it on since he felt dry enough. "Thanks for the advice," he said sarcastically, not really caring. Personally, he was pretty light-heartedly. But at the moment, he was slightly frustrated and the fact that she was being annoying just made it worse. "I wouldn't know. I wasn't the one who recognized you," he said, running a hand through his hair when he felt stray pieces beginning to curl onto his forehead. "But listen, great chat, but I'm gonna go now," he said, beginning to back away. She was something, that was for sure. An annoying something.

Kinley was taken aback when he started to leave, her mouth hanging open slightly. Was this conversation over? It wasn't for her, that was for sure. Her mind was buzzing as she thought quickly for something to say to keep him there for a little while longer. "You're scared," was all she could say. She shrugged, nodding towards the diving board. "That's the problem. It's not your technique, which I'm sure you already knew." She sat up in her reclined chair, adjusting it so she could lean back against it and look straight at him. "So what are you afraid of?"

As Lucas was walking away, he yawned, glad to be out of there. Though, he froze when she called after him. He frowned, though didn't look back at her. He slowly did after a moment, "It's the board. If you haven't noticed, it's hard and would be killer to hit," he replied honestly, shrugging. He didn't want to know how painful that diving board would be if he hit it, but he knew it would hurt like a bitch. That was something he didn't want to happen; having to deal with that would just be terrible.

Kinley laughed as she stretched her legs out. Was he joking? She decided he probably wasn't; he was genuinely scared of the diving board. "You know, the board's not any harder than regular concrete if you've ever done a flip on a sidewalk," she drawled slowly, hoping it would annoy him a bit more, "You could practice doing backflips off of a bench onto the ground if it makes you more comfortable. Almost the same thing, isn't it?" She remembered when she had practiced flips from higher places to get over her fear of flying through the air for cheerleading. She frowned and tore her gaze away from him to stare at the pool, suddenly feeling a bit upset. "Well, I know you'd hate to stay and chat with me," she said quickly, "Because you obviously think I'm a total bitch. So why don't you go work on that backflip some more?"
