Timber walked out of her doctors office and into one of the many halls in the hospital. Today had been for one of her usual check ups to make sure that no other sense of hers was leaving. Unlike usual there was an actual positive outcome from seeing the older lady who tended to spit when she said words that contained the letter "s", there was proof that some of Timber's hearing was returning, though there was no guarantee about how much would return to her.
Looking around the sterile halls she started to walk, not quite wanting to leave. Which most would consider strange since after all of the time she had spent there, she would want to leave as soon as possible, but she felt a type of safety in these walls.
As she walked she couldn't help but peer into a couple open hospital rooms. She wore black skinny jeans and a loose fitting brown sweater with sleeves that were a little too long, the cuff of her right one getting stuck on gold colored ring that looked like it was made of antlers.

"He's just in a violent mood today, mom," Grayson murmured into his phone as he leaned against the hallway wall outside his brother's room. He made sure to keep his voice down so that his brother wouldn't hear, although it was extremely unlikely that he would overhear or even understand. He rolled his eyes as his mother continued to worry on the other end. "It's fine; I'm taking care of it." He mumbled his 'I love you, too' before quickly hanging up his phone.
He would never understand why his mother worried so much about his brother but rarely ever actually showed her face at the hospital to visit him. He figured it was because it hurt her to see him act out. She couldn't handle him like Grayson could.
He groaned as he pushed off the wall and turned back to the room door but stopped when he caught sight of a slightly familiar girl. He was sure he didn't know her, but he was fairly certain she went to his school. She was walking towards him down the hall, peering curiously into open doors. He wondered briefly if she was lost, and he stared at her for a moment before speaking. "Uh, are you looking for something or someone?"

Timber heard a slight buzzing in her ear, a look of confusing passed through her eyes as she tried to figure out what was going on, not being able to recognize that she could hear the soft tones of voices. She wasn't accustom to the whole idea of her hearing coming back, she had always been told that her hearing was never coming back and now the doctors were telling her the opposite.
She looked around quietly, soon spotting Grayson. Wondering if he was the one she was hearing, he had to be. There wasn't anyone else around, but she had no idea what he had said.
Feeling stupid, she slowly walked over to him and held up her phone so he could read what she had typed onto it. "Did you say something?" it read.

Grayson watched Timber, narrowing his eyes as she seemed to ignore him and text on her phone instead. Some girls were just rude. He was only trying to help, not being some creeper trying to get into her panties or something. When she came towards him and held her phone out for him to read, he raised an eyebrow.
"Um, yeah," he mumbled, biting his lip. He felt confused for a second but decided she must have trouble hearing. Surely she could read lips or something though, right? "I was wondering if you were lost," he said slowly, hoping she would understand him. If not, fuck it. She could just continue to be lost.

Timber watched his lips, oblivious to anything else about him. She frowned slightly and shook her head, then offered a small smile as she typed a new message on her phone then held it up for him to see. "I'm not lost. I just finished my appointment and decided to look around a little bit."

Grayson narrowed his eyes slightly as he studied her phone screen. He nodded slowly before speaking. "I see," he said with a shrug before being cut off by his brother yelling from his room again. He closed his eyes and exhaled, thankful that she wasn't able to hear the fit on the other side of the wall.

She watched him closely, her head cocking to the side ever so slightly. She quickly typed into her phone and held it back out to him. "You okay?" She asked, wincing slightly when there use a sudden ringing in her ears. The ringing had been getting more frequent and irritating day by day, it made her want to rip her hair out, but her doctor explained that the ringing meant that her hearing was coming back.

Grayson watched her, tilting his head and smiling amusedly, as she typed a message into her phone for him to read again. When she turned the phone for him to see, he nodded. "Sure, I'm fine," he said slowly with a shrug, thankful that his brother was starting to quiet down in the room behind him. Although she apparently couldn't hear him, he still felt embarrassed by his brother's outbursts.

She nodded slowly and looked around them, the nurses in the hall mainly ignoring them. She felt her stomach rumbled, reminding her that she hadn't eaten all day. She ignored it for now and typed again on her phone. "Are you visiting someone here?"

Grayson leaned forward and squinted at her phone, reading what she had typed quickly. He paused for a moment before answering, debating whether he should or not. "My brother," he said finally, jerking his head in the direction of his brother's room door. He glanced down at her stomach when it rumbled, raising an eyebrow at her. He took her phone and typed his number into a new message, quickly texting himself. "Here," he mumbled, handing her her phone back and taking his own phone out of his pocket. He quickly texted her back from his phone. 'I'm Grayson. Maybe it'll be easier if we just text. Are you hungry?'

Timber glanced at his brothers door, but didn't try to get too good of a look. She didn't want to invade any personal space. She watched as he took their phones and looked at his message. She half smiled and nodded. 'Much easier. I'm Timber....yeah...I haven't eaten at all today. I was too nervous.'

Grayson laughed quietly as he read the text from the girl on his phone, shaking his head. Timber? Seriously? This girl was becoming more and more interesting by the second. His fingers flew across his iphone screen as he typed a message back to her. 'I'm kind of hungry too. Want to grab something to eat?' He paused, debating whether or not to press her for details on why she had been nervous, but he decided to leave it alone for now and pressed the send button.

Timber watched him quietly as he responded to her, frowning slightly when she thought he laughed. Her cheeks turned pink and she looked down. She looked down as her phone vibrated, signaling that she had gotten a text. She read it and nodded quietly. 'Yeah, let's get something, as to what, I'll eat anything.'

Grayson frowned as she blushed, suddenly feeling bad for laughing at her name. Although he was certain she couldn't have heard it, he was sure she probably had seen his laugh. He bit his lip and quickly typed a text back to her, hoping he could make it up to her before she thought he was a complete asshole. "Come on, I'll take you somewhere. It doesn't even have to be that delicious cafeteria food. "

Timber half smiled at his text and tugged on a strand of hair before replying. 'What? None of that lovely hospital food? I was soooooo looking forward to it though ;p' She replied, hoping he'd get the sarcasm, he seemed smart enough to get it. She was hoping they would go somewhere good, she was craving some greasy fast food.
