 My name is Claudia Strych and I'm in charge of directing all musicals and plays of this school. As it being my first year here, I wanted to select a classic you and I are both very familiar with.
Come prepared with a short monologue and a song selection. If you are auditioning for a certain part, say, Belle, I suggest you sing one of Belles songs.
I hope to see you all Saturday afternoon at 2!

Yulia looked at the flyer on the drama wall, slightly intrigued. Her new friend Jayne liked performing. She texted her
"B&tB is the musical. Come sign up!"

"It's right here." Yulia led Jayne over to the sign up sheet. "So I know it's not Rock of Ages..."
"It's something." Jayne commented, signing her name. "But even if I could have the part, I have this giant ass Dark Crystal tattoo on my arm."
"Well then, there should be a tattooed princess."

It was exciting to see that the school's musical this year was Beauty and the Beast. It'd be embarrassing for her to say that Beauty and the Beast was her favourite movie. Most people would go list off the latest and greatest. Ellie was still stuck in her childhood.
She slunk back slightly once she saw that there were other people around the sign. It would be great to land a part in the school musical. Ellie liked to sing. Ellie was good at singing, but... she didn't know. The confidence just wasn't there. Even for a movie that Ellie loved. It really wouldn't hurt to sign up. Just because her name was on the paper, didn't mean she would need to show up to the actual rehearsal. If needed, she could always just show up and offer to do the make-up.
Ellie pulled a pen from her bag and approached the signup sheet. Belle, Mrs. Potts. Either roles would be great. And in her opinion, she could totally rock the title song as the stout tea pot. She was short... Her pen slowly slipped into her mouth as she debated. Ellie visibly cringed as she scribbled her name on the list and then booked it back down the hall. |

Dixie saw the sign up sheet. She smiled. She signed up for the part of Belle. She knew she could do the singing part. She smiled and looked around.

Dixie looked around at the mention of Vlad. She had talked a few times to him in the school chat room butshe had yet to meet him. She started to sing softly a song that had been sung by Belle in the movie.

Ellie hadn't left the hallway where the others signed up for the auditions. Everybody seemed so excited about it. The other girls were attractive and no doubt interested in the role of Belle. Nobody else had even made mention of competition for Mrs. Potts. Dear lord! What did she just do? She approached the girl who had been singing to herself. "You sing well, but it looks like there will be a lot of competition for Belle, sign ups just started, I mean." |

They started walking one direction as Vlad came the other.

Dixie looked at her. "I really don't care if I don't get it. I could do any part" she said to her. "I'm not even sure if id be any good in a play. I have never been in a musical" she said with a small smile.

Vlad walked up to the board and signed his name. Being in the Russian army, a school musical would be new to him.

That was condescending. Ellie smiled at the girl who believed she could do just any part. "I signed up for Mrs. Potts. Thinking about it now, I don't think my voice has the right tone for her." Truthfully, she really did want Belle, but she also didn't want to get mixed up in something that was over her head. "I might just cross my name off and work on the stage crew. It's just learning lines, though. If you can remember those, then you're already on your way. And acting. Can you act?" Because if this girl couldn't, then why would she bother signing up in the first place? |

"Yea I can" she said. "Back at my old school I liked being in drama class. We never had money for a play but we would act in class" Dixie said. "Well maybe we coukd trade roles" she said to the girl.

Ellie laughed. Drama class was fun, indeed. The highlight of Ellie's first year was a monologue that had her acting like somebody who was throwing a fit while waiting for her therapist. This year, she opted to take stagecraft instead. But this girl, she was speaking as though she already had the part in the play. Simply signing up didn't mean the part was hers. And people could easily try out for Belle and be cast as Mrs. Potts. That was just how it worked. "I'm not trying to change your mind," she told her. "I was just wondering. I probably won't even show up for the audition." |
