Baseball was his life and soul. Connar would have to be locked in a room with seven locks to keep him off the diamond. That's how he and his family spent time, that's where he rehabilitated his sister, and that's how he met his girlfriend.
They had been talking secretly since October, meeting at the baseball diamond every Friday to play some catch. Needless to say, he was still outraged about the most recent Shark Tank, even though Shore cleared things up. But it forced them to come out as a couple, which they didn't want to do. At least now they could hold hands in the halls. Whoever this Captain is, he'll get what he's asking for; thrown into a pit full of pissed off jocks who will do as they please with him. Sirens fate will be up to the ladies. It helped him with his pitching practice though. At least they won their first game.
On Friday, Yulia was with him. On Saturday, he was alone. It didn't matter though, since he could toss the ball and strike it with the bat. He was both batter and pitcher.
What sucked about having one baseball was that he would have to run and retrieve it. The diamond needs to have a box of those.

"It can't be too much fun playing the game by yourself," the girl spoke up from behind the fence. She clung to the fence with her fingers entwined within the links and her face pressed up upon it. Wouldn't it be easier for him to turn around and hit the ball against the barrier behind him? It saved him a lot of trouble of running after the ball. Ellie simply shrugged at her own thought. Perhaps the stereotype about jocks being idiots was true. Ellie was no good with sports but that didn't mean she hated to watch. That was why she came down to the diamonds in the first place, that and to let herself calm down some after the earlier audition. "Where is the rest of your team?"

"Probably sleeping." 'Or having sex' he thought. "What brings you here?" he questioned. The diamond was not the most popular spot for kids to be alone. It was only crowded during a game.

"That's a lazy team. The best time to practice is in the morning when the weather is nice." But then again, a team didn't need to practice constantly inorder to win. It was probably their off day and this guy was making a stink about it. Ellie walked around the fence and entered through the dugout. "I was just on a walk around the school grounds since it was so nice out. Needed to calm my nerves."
She bent down and awkwardly scooped the ball into her hands. She hadn't played catch or anything since she lived in St. Cloud. "I am no pitcher but if you want to practice hitting the ball I could try to help."

"You want me to show you how to pitch?"

He didn't even give her a chance to throw it before he already offered to help her learn. Ellie wasn't an athlete so it wasn't like she really needed to learn how to pitch, especially for a game that she would never play again past this moment of time. It was more than just throwing the ball really fast and really hard. And she knew that. "I know how to throw a ball," she pointed out to him. That should have been all he needed. "My arm won't be as strong as the boys on your team. I was just thinking about underarm pitching. Like with fast pitch softball."

"Show me." he said, picking up his bat.

Oh. Ellie mumbled to herself when he didn't say much after that. She had expected for him to show her anyways. Her fingers traced along the laces of the ball as she turned it around in her hands. She stood erect, parted her feet, and shuffled around. A foot went behind her and her arm looped around awkwardly, the ball picking up speed with the added momentum of the twist. When it left her fingers it went no where near Conner and instead whizzed past him and collided with the fence behind him about ten feet to the left. The miss didn't bother Ellie as much. She just laughed and started to walk over to the ball that began rolling away. "I'm out of practice. At least I didn't hit you with it."

Connar resisted laughing and picked up the ball, holding it in a certain way. "There are nine ways to hold a baseball when ya pitchin. "Theres the four seam fastball, the two seam fastball, the changup, the curveball, the slider, the split finger, the forkball and the knuckle ball. Four seam is the fastest." he shifted his fingers. "You gotta spread your fingers slightly with your fingertips barely over the laces."
His index and middle finger spread across the ball until they were close enough the the laces. "Sometimes it's easier to lick your fingers for a better grip. But here's a four seam." he showed her, rolling his wrist with his fingers glued to the ball.
"Now wind up postion. Your feet should be shoulder length apart. Step slightly to the left with ya left foot, and lift your leg until your thigh is parallel to the ground." He turned around, facing the fence to demonstrate. "Your elbow should be bent between 45 to 90 degrees. During that, lower your leg as close to the ground without toughing it. Land your front foot at a closed angle and push off with your back foot. Then ya pitch it."
He aimed the ball at the fence, which made the metal fly back and rattle.

Do what now? Ellie didn't get all the technical shizzwaz in sports. She just wanted to throw the ball so he could hit it. It soon became a bit more complicated then she pictured it. Awkwardly, her fingers twisted around the ball until she had grasp on it while she tried to mimic the way he had been holding it. "Got it," she responded. It was nothing like the underarm throwing of softball. Her stance started out similar to his - with her feet parted level with her shoulders. Her body was bent and ready, but when she lifted the ball to throw it she gave a loud HYAA and threw the ball into the dirt only a few yards in front of her.

Connar rolled it back to her, hiding his amusment. "Try again." he said. He lifted up his bat.
"So, did you audition for that musical?" he asked, starting up a conversation.

Ellie tapped the ball with her foot and rolled it on the ground. She never expected him to ask about the musical. She didn't think a jock-type guy would care about something like that. "I actually did. I am still waiting to hear the results. I've told people before that I don't mind if I don't get the part. I know my singing isn't up to par with everyone else or overly amazing. I just wanted to.. i dunno." Prove something to herself, she guessed. That she could go out and audition for something. Ellie didn't even want the part. It would be more appreciated by somebody else. Once again she picked up the ball and concentrated on her throwing. This time she managed to throw it across the plate for him to hit, surprising herself with how well she actually managed to throw it.

The bat collided with the ball, causing it to fly a decent distance. "Nice throw!" he commented. He wanted to know because his girlfriend said she was going to audition for the ensemble. He wasn't sure that she kept her word though since the last Shark Tank. And it was the talk of the school, and he was looking forward to seeing it, even if Yulia wasn't in it.

With an open mouth, she watched the ball fly high over head. It took her awhile to realize that she would now have to go and chase it down. That was a bummer. After locating the ball she found her way back to the pitcher's mound and threw it once again. It had only been a few throws, but already Ellie's arm was starting to hurt. She might have thrown it just a little bit too hard that one time. "You like musicals?" Ellie did. "You should come watch this one when it's finally put on. If I'm not singing then I assure you that I totally did the makeup."

"Cool." he commented. "So, did you see a blonde girl in a dress at the audition? She said she was gonna try out but I'm sure she changed her mind."
Indeed, Yulia was nowhere to be seen. The director called her name and no one raised their hand. The tattooed girl questioned, "Where the hell is she?" and another guy shrugged.

"There were a few blonde girls at the audition," Ellie said slowly, trying to recall the details from earlier. She couldn't recall seeing any in a dress though. "Not everyone that wrote their name down showed up. The first girl in line didn't." Ellie couldn't match names and appearances very well. She knew only the people in her classes and the people with a very widely known reputation. Most of the time she just stuck to her own business. "I think her name was Julia or something. Sorry if that doesn't help you any, but maybe that's her." She was curious as to why he was concerned but didn't press it any.

"Yulia's my girlfriend. She said she was going to audition and when I asked her if she changed her mind, she didn't text me back. So I wanted to know."

"Oh." That answered one of the questions that she didn't bother to ask him at least. It made Ellie worry a bit about the girl. Had Ellie had a boyfriend, she imagined that he would be the first person to know if something was wrong with her. She placed her hand on her hip and looked at the baseball player. He should have been acting a lot more worried than he was. "So why are you out here practicing instead of going to look for her?" she scolded. "Shouldn't you go and cheer her up if something is wrong?"

Connar was taken aback. "Because she told me she wanted to be alone. She won't tell me anything else." The last thing she ever texted him was 'I need alone time, please understand' and he just wanted to know if she changed her mind and decided to audition.
And now this girl was, as he saw it, accusing him of being a bad boyfriend.

Ellie would still be worried had it been her girlfriend. The more people around her wanted to be alone, the more she wanted to find out what was wrong with them. She was just the same way though. Ellie hated when other people were around her when she was feeling down. "I guess she must have changed her mind then," she told him. This was starting to get exhausting. Ellie was feeling less and less comfortable around this guy as the conversation went on. He was probably getting angry with Ellie. It would be understandable. Ellie seemed to chase people away when she was trying to be friendly or helpful. But still! He should at least go hug her or something! Let her know that she wasn't alone. "The musical wasn't that important anyway. Nobody is going to go see it. There's no reason to audition," she offered. "I wouldn't be surprised if it got canceled on us."
